Worldchanging

I picked up a copy of the new Worldchanging book this weekend. It it is subtitled a user's guide to the 21st century. I have just started going through it, but it looks like an excellent resource covering a broad spectrum of ideas focused on sustainable solutions. The book is broken down into seven sections: stuff, shelter, cities, community, business, politics and planet. While this book is by no means a one stop source it is valuable because it attempts to bridge many disciplines and starts to illustrate how things are interconnected. Worldchanging also has a excellent website that has additional resources - worldchanging.com.

Laws of Simplicity

The laws of simplicity is a a site and book by John Maeda.  He is a professor at MIT studying design and technology.  In an effort to find a way through the clutter of life today he has identified these laws to help guide the way to achieve simplicity in "design, business, technology and life".  To me the 10th law sums everything up.

#10 - the one.  Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious and adding the meaningful.

transmaterial

This book is an excellent resource for innovative materials. This along with the website is an excellent resource for designers. They reference ecosmart concrete and they use a photo of our Metro Skatepark to illustrate the material. The book is available through their website @ www.transstudio.com.
